Vacheron Constantin "Hommage a Maurice Bejart"

On December 9th, at the Opera Bastille in Paris, Swiss watch manufacture Vacheron Constantin hosted a premiere of “Hommage a Maurice Bejart” with the Opera National de Paris, reprising its role as historical patron of the arts. In addition to Vacheron Constantin CEO Juan-Carlos Torres and Vacheron Constantin International Director Marc Guten, Gerard Motier, Director of the Opera National de Paris and dance director Brigitte Lefevre were in attendance. Hundreds of notable Parisians arrived at the Opera Bastille, to take in impassioned performances of Bejart ballets, including “Adagietto” and “Le chant du compagnon errant”. The fact that the performance of these works were being undertaken by the troupe for the first time since Bejart’s death in 2007, added to the emotional power of the evening. Important guests of Vacheron Constantin included Ferah Pahlavi, Empress of Iran, and Ulrich Lehner, the Swiss ambassador to France. After the conclusion of the ballets, the historic Swiss watchmaker hosted an elegant thematic reception on the uppermost floor of the Opera Bastille, which included a display of distinguished Vacheron Constantin timepieces. Vacheron Constantin has been a patron of the Opera National de Paris since 2007. The relationship is highly complimentary, marked by shared values of artistic excellence and a dedication to preserving fine culture.Shop By Vacheron Constantin CollectionRelated articles in Vacheron Constantin newsVacheron Constantin Excellence Platine Retrograde Day & Date Watch, Limited Edition Of 100Vacheron Constantin watch wins “Best Men’s Classic Watch” Award In Dubai

H Stern Marketing to Grand Endeavors

An innovator of the jewelry industry from a design perspective, H. Stern did not stop there. Ideas that were originally implemented as marketing strategies have evolved into grand endeavors for the company of which they are very proud. In the 1950s, Founder Hans Stern opened a “Guided Tour” of its workshops to show off the jewelry making process in an effort to attract foreign clients and a museum of crystals and rough gemstones. Currently, the museum includes a permanent exhibit of Hans’ personal collection of polished tourmalines and other rare minerals. There are over 1,000 different shades of tourmalines alone. In the late 1950s, in an effort to rate the quality of his gemstones, Hans established his own gemological laboratory to analyze and classify precious gems and metals as well as research new raw materials. Now the Brazilian jewelry company follows the high standards and specifications of the Gemological Institute of America and ensures that its labs are equipped with the most advanced technology available to the industry.Shop By Replica Watches CollectionRelated articles in Fashion Watches newsBaselworld 2010 Planning Moves Forward With ConfidenceBalmain Watches Grace Miss Switzerland Pageant

The relationship between Swiss watch brand Balmain and the Miss Switzerland pageant will continue in 2008. IWC Vintage Ingenieur Automatic Watch

PRESS RELEASE –The IWC Ingenieur Automatic of 1955: No watch has defined the “technical” profile of IWC quite like the Ingenieur, which was introduced in 1955 and which was the first watch to feature the IWC automatic movement developed by Albert Pellaton. With its pawl-winding system and the spring-mounted rotor, it has remained a benchmark for watch technology at the highest level – while retaining the ultimate degree of toughness. This programmatic watch, which exemplifies the watchmaking engineering of the Schaffhausen manufacturer, launched IWC into the modern era. An icon of a quality consciousness handed down since 1868, it has remained in the product range under a number of guises. In 1989, a legendary model, the Ingenieur 500,000 A/m, set a world record with its antimagnetic components for the resistance of a mechanical watch against the most extreme magnetic fields. Half a century after its first appearance, IWC’s watchmaking icon was fundamentally revised. That which more than 50 years ago ensured toughness and reliability in the Ingenieur – first as the 8531 and later as the 8541 calibre – today finds its logical evolution in the IWC-manufactured 80110 and 80111 calibre. The Ingenieur Automatic is equipped with this unit, which also drives the “new” Ingenieur, presented in 2005. The vintage watch features a 42.5-millimetre case and one of the most stylish Ingenieur dials – with the point-stroke indices (the luminescent material forms the point) and the dauphine-style hands. This model is today a collector’s rarity of the very highest order. The modern homage to this watch monument dispenses with the soft iron case of the original, thus affording an insight into the IWC-manufactured movement. With the anti-reflective, crossed out sapphire glass over the dial and the screw-in crown, the new Vintage Ingenieur is water-resistant to 12 bar. TECHNICAL DATA Features Homage to the first Ingenieur with automatic movement from 1955, with the 80111-calibre movement successor with Pellaton winding system, platinum model limited to 500 watches Movement Calibre 80111 Vibrations 28,800/h / 4 Hz Jewels 28 Power reserve 44 h Winding automatic Case Materials platinum, stainless steel Glass sapphire, crossed out, antireflective Back sapphire glass Dial silver-plated, black Water-resistant 12 bar Diameter 42.5mm Height 14.5mm Weight Watch in platinum with black crocodile leather strap 163 g Watch in stainless steel with black crocodile leather strap 99 gShop By IWC CollectionRelated articles in IWC newsIWC Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth WatchIWC Novelties Da Vinci Automatic Precious Stones Watch

Glashutte Original Awards 2009 Saeculum Music Festival Prize To Gustavo Dudamel

Young Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel was the latest recipient of the Saeculum Glashutte Original Music Festival Prize. On the 23rd of May, 2009, the celebrated Saxon watch manufacture presented Dudamel with his 25,000 Euro award and the distinctive Saeculum Prize which presents a model of the flying tourbillon as conceived by German horologist Alfred Helwig. The prize itself, featuring a base in Elbe sandstone, was crafted by trainees of the Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking, an important foundation of watchmaking knowledge in Glashutte. The presentation took place at the famed Dresden Semperoper. Bestowing the 28-year old conductor with his prize and hearty congratulations were Gunter Wiegand, Managing Director of Glashutte Original, and Jan Vogler, Director of the Dresden Music Festival. The prize was in large part a recognition of Dudamel’s dedication to “El Sistema”, a social program in Venezuela which utilizes a network of musical schools and orchestras to assist impoverished youth in finding positive focus for their lives. Dudamel expressed his gratitude for the accolade and prize money, emphasizing that the latter would be used to purchase instruments for the El Sistema orchestras. He also commented upon the importance of cultivating artistic values in emerging generations. “That,” said Dudamel, “is the most important thing–music and peace, justice and love.” Following the conclusion of the award ceremony, Gustavo Dudamel took to the podium and led the musicians of Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Orchestra in a fine performance of various works, including Sergei Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony in B-flat Major.
